Elche is a big city with a small town’s trick up its sleeve: a anillo de bolsas gratuitas — with Cándalix, official and open around the clock, as the jewel beside the Palmeral —, a zona azul in the centre with short hours (morning and afternoon, with the siesta and Sundays free)… and the calendar on your side: in August the whole scheme switches off and the city of the Misteri is free to park in.
Elche has a gift a lot of people don’t know about: Cándalix, a free municipal car park, open 24 hours and three minutes from the Palmeral. Between that and the ring of car parks, parking here costs nothing.

Around 15,500 m² in the same district: the back-up to Cándalix and the option for the university area. If you find the first one closed for an event, this is a block away.
Around 11,000 m² next to the EL-20, on the southern exit towards the camp d’Elx. It takes care of the south of the city.
Around 15,000 m² in the north-west: park-and-walk for Carrús and the whole west side.
Only one paying car park on the list, and it has its moment.
Surface level, east of the centre, with the tariff shown at the entrance. Its advantage is where it is: a step from the Huerto del Cura, so if you’re visiting the garden and want shade, it’s worth it.
Elche’s scheme has some of the most bearable hours anywhere: Mon-Fri 9:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, Saturdays 9:30 to 13:30 — the siesta, the evenings, Sundays and public holidays are all free. Maximum around 2 hours; the tariff is set by the machine or the payment apps. The list of streets isn’t published, so we don’t draw approximations: the blue zone lives in the centre (La Corredora and around it) and is defined by the signs on each stretch.
And the jewel in the calendar: every August the council makes the blue zone free across the whole municipality — morning and afternoon, the entire month (confirmed by the council for 2026). August in Elche means the Misteri, palm trees… and parking without a ticket.

The council’s own listing says it: free, open 24 hours and on avenida de Cándalix, a three-minute walk from the Palmeral and ten from the old town. It’s the short answer to almost any visit to Elche. One caveat: at weekends it can be booked out for events — if you find it closed, the Candalix north car park is a block away. For the Huerto del Cura, Park 2 is a step away if you’d rather pay and have shade.
Cándalix (free, 3 min) is the answer. Alternatives: Candalix north, or Park 2 if you don’t mind paying.
Under 2 hours: the blue zone nearby. Longer: Cándalix and a 10-minute walk through the Parque Municipal — the best possible way into the city.
