Castelló is one of the few provincial capitals that publishes its regulated zone calle a calle (official operator), which lets us do what almost nobody does: draw the whole thing. The short version: the centre mixes azul (short stays, €0.95/h), verde (residents) and pedestrian streets; the anillo de explanadas — Fires, the west, the university — takes care of longer stays; and the Grau and El Pinar have a car park of their own right by the sand.
Where to park for free in Castellón de la Plana
In Castelló the blue and green zones are concentrated in the centre. The free parking is out on the ring, and there’s an enormous lot on the old showground.

Blue and green, street by street (official list)
Blue zone (18 streets from the official list): Navarra, Rei En Jaume, Asensi, plaça del Real, Echegaray, Amadeu I, Trullols, Pérez Galdós, Tarragona, passeig Ribalta, la Trinitat, Catalunya, Concepción Arenal, Cosme Vives, Galícia, Aragó, Pare Vela and Pintor Vergara. Hours: Mon-Fri 9-14 and 17-20, Saturdays 9-14; tariff €0.25 per 15 min, €0.95/h, maximum 100 minutes (€1.60); €5.25 to cancel a penalty; machine or EasyPark.
Green zone (20 streets: Notari Mas, Pintor Castell, Germanies, Madrid, Fola, Ramón y Cajal, Méndez Núñez…): designed so that a resident with a permit parks free and with no time limit near home; a visitor can still use it by paying the same rate, with the same 100-minute cap. All drawn on the map (blue and orange); four streets on the list have no geometry in OpenStreetMap (Padre Aliaga, Villarroig, Infante Don Pedro and Bartolomé Reus) — there, as ever, the signs are what count.
The Grau and El Pinar beach
Castelló’s beach is 4 km from the centre, in the Grau: the El Pinar lot (≈9,300 m², free) puts the car right by the sand and the pine wood the beach is named after. On August Sundays it does fill up — before 11:00 and you’re safe. For the puerto y sus arroces, the car parks in the old fishing quarter; and if you’re coming for the Magdalena festival (March), forget the centre: the showground plus a walk, or public transport, the way locals do it.
Where is it easy (and where hard) to park?
- 🔴 The centre on weekdays: blue + green + pedestrian. Car parks and a walk, or the blue zone if it’s quick (max. 100 min).
- 🟠 El Pinar on August Sundays: before 11:00.
- 🟢 The ring (showground, west, university): enormous lots, nearly always with space.
- 🟢 Sundays, public holidays and Saturday afternoons: the scheme rests across the whole city.
Where to park depending on your plan
For plaça Major, La Farola and El Fadrí
Under 100 minutes: the blue zone on Ribalta or Rei En Jaume. Longer: the showground and a 15-minute walk (or the city bus along avenida del Mar).
For the Ribalta park and the station
The passeig Ribalta itself is blue zone; around the station it mixes blue and green — check the colour of the line.
For El Pinar beach
Its free lot right there. In August, make an early-ish start.
For the university
The car park by the campus, or the university ring road itself.
For the General Hospital
The big south-west car park, a step from the ring road.

Spanish national law (RD 1056/2014) allows parking in regulated zones with the card on display; the exact conditions are set by each town’s by-law — if in doubt, ask the warden. Always display the card. A UK blue badge is recognised in Spain.
