Between Vinaròs and Peñíscola, Benicarló plays its own game: blue zone on the central streets with friendlier hours than usual (the morning ends at 13:00 and the midday break lasts four hours), bolsas gratis en el puerto a step from Morrongo beach, and a town of artichokes and Falles with peaks all of its own. Where to park for free in Benicarló
Benicarló’s blue zone has one detail that catches people out: the morning ends at 13:00, not 14:00. These car parks are outside it and free at all times.
Option 2: Harbour car parks (Morrongo)
The open yards of the fishing harbour, four minutes from Morrongo beach. This is the fish-restaurant end of town.

Benicarló’s blue zone (official hours)
The hours are published on the council’s official tourism website: Monday to Friday 9 to 13 and 17 to 20; Saturdays 9 to 13; no service on Sundays and public holidays. Dos rarezas a favor del visitante: la morning ends at 13:00 (an hour earlier than in most towns) and the midday break lasts cuatro horas — lunch in Benicarló is free as far as the ticket machine is concerned. You pay at the machine or from your phone with EasyPark or Blinkay. The harbour, the artichoke and the Falles
The local trick is the puerto: its free yards are 4 minutes from Morrongo and 10 from the centre — they work as a natural park-and-walk all year round. With that sorted, Benicarló runs on a calendar: in enero-febrero, the festival of the D.O. artichoke fills the restaurants (and the south car park); in March, the Falles — officially declared of Tourist Interest — close the centre for several days; and in summer, the walk down to Morrongo is best at sunset. The blue zone, with its short morning and its four-hour break, is hardly ever the problem.
